This week we are delighted to share with you a new video from Alannah Ryane's By Her Roots webisode series (it's #8). On her mother's 75th birthday, Alannah takes her on a trip to a Toronto cemetery, where she has learned her great-grandfather is buried. It's a really interesting story, so check it out!

New Genealogy Video: Tracing Michelle Obama's Roots

It's not New Roots Tuesday, but this is too big to wait until next week!! Check out our new video all about Michelle Obama's roots.

Megan Smolenyak shares the story of researching the First Lady's background, and includes details about Michelle's Native and Irish heritage as well as the ten states that can claim a piece of her past. The video also includes details about both free and enslaved ancestors, and a relative who invented a marble shooter!

The video is amazing, if we do say so ourselves, but there's even more exciting news. Check out the coverage at the New York Times detailing Megan's genealogical findings.

New Genealogy Videos: A Great-Grandfather's Story Revealed After 40 Years and a Cute Trip Back to WWII

Happy New Roots Tuesday!

Take a journey back in time with our newest video, courtesy of the US Archives, and watch Mrs. Harry Truman (Bess) attempt to christen a new hospital plane to be used in WWII. It's a light moment from a very dark time.

Then listen to Cary Christopher's wonderful story about finally finding information about his great-grandfather, after a 40 year search, in exactly the opposite place he expected it to be. Ancestry.com definitely helped solve this history quest!

Of course we still have last week's wonderful new videos, including Richard Hill's DNA story and the very helpful information provided by Family Tree DNA and producer Sidney Sachs, all about using courthouse records to aid in your genealogy research.

Sticking somewhat with the historical/military theme this week, I also recommend you make some time to review the two part video series on Military and Census Records, or Megan's Research: the case of Joseph Higgs. Great stuff!

This week we have a really fascinating video to share, where Richard Hill shares his journey to find out who his biological father was, which included three types of DNA tests! Who knew you could do so much with a Family Tree DNA Test?

And thanks to Producer Sidney Sachs of Tracing Your Family Roots we also have a great video to share this week about using courthouse records in your genealogy search. Sometimes some old-fashioned paper trail chasing is in order to further your search!
